Day 1:
An early start this morning as we make our way, by coach, to Rosslare port to board our ferry to Wales. The sailing takes 3.5 hours and the ship has a range of relaxing lounges, restaurants and bars onboard. Relax and unwind on this newly upgraded ferry. The Duty Free shop onboard has a great selection of cosmetics, fragrances and alcohol savings. We continue to our journey through Wales and overnight in the Somerset area.
We dine as a group creating a perfect opportunity to meet and get to know your fellow travelling companions.
Day 2:
Following breakfast, we check out of our hotel and travel southbound to the famous fishing village Padstow, Cornwall’s gourmet capital and linked with celebrity chef Rick Stein. Situated on the Camel Estuary, it has a noble maritime history.
The shifting sands of the port were the site of over 300 wrecked vessels between the 18th and 20th centuries, but now it’s cobbled streets play host to the tourists who come to visit.
We arrive at Newquay and to the Fistral Beach Hotel in the late afternoon with time to refresh before dinner together
Day 3:
This morning we visit the amazing Eden Project – Cornwall’s most popular tourist attraction. Built in a disused china clay pit, this is the story of man’s dependence on plants, people and places. Dominated by the futuristic-looking biome structure, the Project is much more than a green theme park. The site is huge, and you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of the tropical steaming rainforests area, then move onto the Mediterranean biome with its huge selection of plants and enjoy the glorious displays of flowers. Between the Domes there are restaurants and shops to browse and buy.
Later, we visit the nearby China Clay Mining Heritage Centre, set within a preserved Victoria Clay works, you’ll learn about this billion Pound industry for which Cornwall is famous. This attraction is always popular with our guests.
Dinner together this evening at our hotel.
Day 4:
Our morning begins with a visit to Land’s End, the most westerly point of Britain. Enjoy splendid vistas of one of England’s most beautiful coastal landscapes with cliffs carved out by the waves of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. We stop here at Land’s End for a stroll, pop by the Visitor’s Centre and our visit is finished off beautifully by a delightful ‘Cornish Cream Tea’.
We’ll travel by coach tour to the pretty town of St Ives, a typical Cornish fishing port. Dominated by its magnificent beach of golden sand, it has a deep-rooted fishing tradition and a thriving artistic inheritance.
Enjoy the afternoon exploring the harbour, then stroll through the maze of busy, narrow cobbled streets.
Dinner together this evening at our hotel.
Day 5:
This morning after breakfast we visit the inspirational and awarding wining Lost Gardens of Heligan. Asleep for over 70 years, the gardens we discovered in 16th February 1990, The Lost Gardens of Heligan were rediscovered from the brambles of time. It was only the chance discovery of a door in the ruins that led to the restoration of this once great estate. Today, The Lost Gardens are back where they belong: in pride of place among the finest gardens in England.
The afternoon is at leisure in Newquay to relax and enjoy the pleasures of Newquay. Enjoy a bracing walk along the cliffs or some time on the wonderful beach at your own pace. Newquay has attracted visitors for centuries, from the pirates, to thrill seekers, to holidaymakers and is ranked as one of Britain’s best beach locations.
Our dinner is at the hotel this evening.
Day 6:
Following breakfast we take the short journey to the stunning Cornwall National Trust property of Lanhydrock House.
This former Jacobean mansion was devastated by fire and rebuilt in Victorian style. Beautiful gardens surround the mansion, and the interior can be explored at leisure. There are guides available in rooms to answer any questions and tell you the history of the house. Discover two sides of Victorian life: from the kitchens, nurseries and servant’s quarters, which offer a thrilling glimpse into life ‘below stairs’, to the luxurious family areas, elegant dining room and spacious bedrooms which reveal the comforts of ‘upstairs’ living.
The afternoon is a leisure again in Newquay, but we will meet up with our group for dinner again this evening at our hotel.
Day 7:
Board our luxury coach and relax onboard whilst we travel to Cardiff, take some time in the afternoon to explore this elegant city, full history, culture and charm. Dine in your hotel this evening.
Day 8:
Following breakfast, we check out and travel to Fishguard and cross the Irish Sea to Rosslare Harbour and onwards to our original pick-up points with wonderful memories of our time visiting The Best of Cornwall.
